It is reported that the iPhone 18 series (including Pro/Pro Max) has fully upgraded its back cover to a new generation of AG matte glass, which is the key upgrade in the appearance of this model.  

At the same time, the disjointed feeling caused by the previous generation’s different-colored frame and back panel has been completely eliminated. The frame and back glass are now fully color-matched, significantly improving the visual integration. The back cover’s new AG matte glass also greatly enhances fingerprint and oil resistance; the frame still retains a high-gloss metal finish, with the Apple logo directly embedded in the metal frame.  

Structurally, early engineering units show that both the body and camera module are slightly thicker than the previous generation, mainly to accommodate the A20 Pro chip’s new WMCM packaging process and to move the DRAM to the side to free up space. In leaked drop test videos, the silver-gray version performs better in edge deformation tests, thanks to the extra structural support provided by the stainless steel-encased battery.  

The front Dynamic Island area is expected to shrink by about 35%, with some Face ID components moved under the screen, improving the overall screen-to-body ratio. In terms of market response, silver-gray is widely seen as the safest choice due to its pure matte silver-white tone and delicate metallic texture. It doesn’t show wear easily in daily use and usually retains higher resale value in the second-hand market.  

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to come in four colors: deep cherry red, matte light blue, matte black, and frosted silver, with deep cherry red as the highlight color of the year, expected to be officially released this September.
